Action Research

Action research gets people involved in the problem solving process. It allows for the stakeholders to take an active and vested look at what problems or successes the campus is having. Action research allows for people working with the problem to give immediate feedback on resolutions or conflicts that they have had with current procedures. The budget crisis that we are currently in has me interested in a topic that i hold dearly and that is sports. I propose to incorporate an action research plan in order to gain a deeper and more practical understanding of what level of influence Teamwork, Leadership, and Attitude development training experienced through participation in team sports in secondary school athletics has on students’ academic and personal success throughout their time in high school and college.  I would also like to investigate students’ perceptions on the lasting value of the mental aspects of being involved in secondary school athletics and to what level coaches’ lessons on self-discipline and sacrifice in the best interest of the team are actually applied to real-life situations later on.  I would like to learn more, in order to adjust and improve our approach, about what we have taught our student-athletes that they actually take with them and apply to their lives after their playing days are over.

  1. Travis, thank you for your post about your research, but please post your action research plan in the proper template. If you will observe other student's work on their blogs, it may help give you an idea how this post should look.

    Thanks,
    Dr. Abshire
